Options Industry Sees Volume Highs From Thursday's Activity
OCC announced today that Thursday's daily options trading volume set a new record when 36,132,133contracts traded. This volume represents a 17.24 percent increase from the previous record of30,818,984 contracts set on May 6, 2010; it is more than double theyear-to-date average daily volume going into yesterday's 17.8 millioncontracts.
A totalof 1,988,353 transactions took place on August 4, resulting in $12.3 billion in premium changing hands.
Not to be left out, equity options volume also set a new trading record on Thursday when 33,036,121 contracts traded.This is a 12.55 percent increase from the the previous record of 29,352,698 contractsset on December16, 2010.
