September Options Volume and Marketshare Roundup

On Monday, Oct. 3, the following exchanges releaesd September volume figures.

ISE

ISE reported that its September average daily volume was 3.3 million contracts, representing a 26.3 perecent rise as compared to September 2010 numbers.

Total options volume for the month was 68.8 million contracts and the exchange had a market share of 19.7 percent, making it the second-largest U.S. equity options exchange in September when excluding dividend trade volume.

CBOE

CBOE's September avereage daily volume was 4.7 million contracts, representing a 25 percent increase from 3.8 million contracts in September 2010. This number is a 24 percent decrease from August's record average daily volume of 6.3 million contracts.

Looking at CBOE's equity option numbers, its September average daily volume was 1.7 million contracts, an 11 percent decrease from 1.9 million contracts in September 2010. When compared to August's numbers, average daily volume is down 22 percent from 2.1 million contracts.

CBOE's equity options market share in September was 19.5 percent, down 0.3 of a percentage point from the previous month and down 2.4 percent from September 2010.
