Options Update: Alternative Energy Sector
Many of the solar names are seeing active trading in the options market amid increasing interest in alternative energy names.
Wednesday, for example, Yingli Green Energy (YGE) saw six times its normal trading volume. Shares rose $2.85 to $27.19 and 33,000 calls traded, compared to 14,000 puts. The action comes ahead of an earnings report due out Thursday morning before the opening bell.
In addition, the entire alternative energy group has been performing exceptionally well as record crude oil drives interest in the options of a number of individual companies.
First Solar (FSLR), JA Solar (JASO), Evergreen Solar (ESLR), Energy Conversion (ENER) and Canadian Solar (CSIQ) are all seeing increasing options activity as the sector outperforms and shares move higher.
