CBOE Adds New Stocks and ETFs
It seems as if the Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) is making weekly changes to its new ìWeeklysî options. These are short-term options that are listed each week and that expire in about 7 days, as mentioned in this earlier post.
Thereís a link on the CBOE site called ìAvailable Weeklys,î but it makes you download an Excel spreadsheet, so let me save you the trouble.
The following stocks and ETFs now have weekly options available that expire on August 6:
ETFs
- EEM ñ iShares MSCI Emerging Markets Index
- FAS ñ Direxionshares Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares
- FAZ ñ Direxionshares Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares
- GLD ñ ishares SPDR Gold Trust IWM ñ iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund
- QQQQ ñ Nasdaq-100 Index Tracking Stock
- SPY ñ S&P 500 Depositary Receipts
- USO ñ United States Oil Fund
- XLF ñ Financial Select Sector SPDR
Stocks
- AAPL ñ Apple
- AMZN ñ Amazon
- BAC ñ Bank of America
- BIDU ñ Baidu
- BP ñ British Petroleum
- C ñ Citigroup
- CSCO ñ Cisco Systems
- DNDN ñ Dendreon
- F ñ Ford Motor Company
- GE ñ General Electric
- GOOG ñ Google
- GS ñ Goldman Sachs
- PFE ñ Pfizer
- RIG ñ Transocean
There were three stocks with weekly options that expired on July 30, but wonít be listed for August 6:
- ABX ñ Barrick Gold
- XOM ñ Exxon Mobil
- POT ñ Potash Corp. of Saskatchewan

And interestingly, the August 6 expiration cycle listed above includes 3 stocks that will announce earnings before the end of this week. These include Dendreon (DNDN), Pfizer (PFE), and Transocean (RIG).
Will these stocks have Weeklys listed for the following week?
Maybe not. Options volume for companies like these are probably far more active as earnings announcements approach.
So for some stocks, perhaps the CBOE is planning to list some weekly options specifically targeted around quarterly earnings releases, while others will be available every week.
